Buddy's Blog

Buddy, a Maltese-Poodle born Oct 1, 2010.

Buddy has been having a bout of Parvo lately but seems to be doing OK now. We're keeping an eye on him, of course.

12/22/2010 - 7:28pm MST. A good friend just sent us this link for a product called Parvaid:

12/27/2010 - 2:21pm MST. Buddy was unable to keep anything down and was not showing improvement as we had hoped. He spent 3 days at the Emergency Animal Clinic, in Gilbert, AZ, where they had him on IVs. We brought him home this morning and while he's doing much better, we are still nursing him.

By the way, when we originally purchased Buddy, the owner told us he was given the standard 4 shots, which should include Parvo, on Nov. 1st. However, there was no receipt. Lesson learned - when you buy a pet from a breeder, make sure you get reliable documentation/proof of innoculations.

01/04/2011 - 8:23am MST. Buddy is back to his normal active self, thank you. We were having difficulty getting him to keep anything (food, medicine) down and had to hold him upright to keep him from regurgitating. Then, once we got him to start eating, he was ravenous and we had to feed him slowly - a few tablespoonfuls every few hours. By Saturday, Jan 1st, he was leaving food in his dish and he is now very active. I'll post a general blog describing Parvo, what it is and the best way to avoid it, along with some informative links. But at this point we feel he is out of danger and pretty much back to being a normal 3-month old puppy.
